I used to call it prophetic prayer, but the word prophetic does not properly pass across the idea. When you say prophetic the first thing that comes to people mind is the foretelling of a future event. But this prayer is not about foretelling anything. It is an extraordinary prayer, not like the usual prayer where you close your eyes and say to God whatever is on your mind. It involves very much the supernatural and the power of the Holy Spirit.
I will share with you three different mystic prayer I know and experience. It took me years trying to understand, but God doesn't stop, He continues to persist till we get what He is trying to tell us. At first I thought it was just me, but hearing other people talk about it made me able to generalize and classify it. So the three mystic prayer that I know are;
1) Prayer of the Godhead
2) Prayer by translation
3) Prayer of the heart
Some others might call them other names, but just for the sake of highlighting them I have given them these names. I will only briefly explain them here, a more detailed explanation will be given in individual posts on them. The prayer of the Godhead is when you are caught up in the conversation of the Godhead concerning God's current workings in your life. You find yourself in the midst of this interaction between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." (2Cor 13:14).
That scripture reveals that you have been called into the fellowship of the Godhead, you exist in the Godhead. When I say fellowship, I am referring to something like a party between the elite of the elites, a party that you are invited. This is something that only the uncreated attend, no created thing dears to show up, in fact they do not have access. But we were given access, and you are invited to this party.
There you observe the things going on between the members of the Godhead; how the Father and the Son speaks to each other and how the Holy Spirit is involve in the interactions. You get to experience all this within you. I am not speaking of a vision, just a prayer. You close your eyes, enter into the Son and merge with him (for we exist among the Godhead inside Christ; we are not a separate entity—a fourth member of the Godhead—we are a member of Christ which is a member of the God, that is, in the meeting of the Godhead you are inside Christ). Then you observe him speak to the Father by the Spirit, and the Father speaks back to the Son by the Spirit.
The conversation continues and gets more intense or even dramatic. The Father might begin to sing to the Son, and the Son singing back to the Father, they are interacting through a song, and you are hearing all of this in your heart. or you might be voicing it out. The Son might speak or sing to the Father through your mouth and the Father speaks or sings back to the Son, through your mouth, like a prophetic utterance or song. If you have ever been under the spirit of prophesy, you will understand what I mean by prophetic utterance.
You are speaking, but it is not you speaking, something inside of you is inspiring those words, and you are just yielding and trying to listen to the words as they come out of your mouth. Anyway, there are different ways this conversation can go, like I said it can become very dramatic and intense. Let's move to the prayer by translation, it seems like this post will be longer than I planned, you will just have to bear with me because I really need to put down all these details.
Prayer by translation is a prayer where you get translated in the spirit to another place. You might find yourself in heaven, or somewhere on earth, but in the spirit. The prayer might start as a normal prayer which got so intense that you become translated to another place in the spirit. You might be in heaven, spending time with the Father or something. Or you might be in another place where God is showing you something or ministering to people through you.
You are passionately praying for someone and all of a sudden you find yourself where the person is, or you are just praying and you find yourself in a place you have never been before, in front of a person or people you probably have never seen before, and you just know you have to minister to them. Ministering to them might include praying, healing, comforting (by the Spirit) etc. At one time I found myself opening someone head and putting something in it, it wasn't a surgery, I guess I was given her some kind of blessing.
I do these things by merging with Christ, allowing everything I do be in perfect union with Christ. I might not even understand what I am doing, it is just the Lord doing it through me. He wants to minister through us if only we would yield ourselves. We are the vessels through which He would answer the prayers of many, we are the ladder where angels are descending and ascending, where blesses are brought to people, where prayers are answered.
Prayer of the heart is when you are communicating with God and the Holy Spirit takes the conversation beyond words and utterance. You are still communicating but you are not saying any words, not in tongues or in your understanding, not in your mind or with your mouth. You are still, and as a result you just begin to know, "be still and know that I am God" (Psa 46:10). You begin to know your true self, your passionate desire for God, how He is your life and you can't live without Him, you can't even breathe without Him.
You begin to know God, His heart, His desire, His passion, His grief, His pain and frustration, His anger, His love. You are knowing God and yourself, no words are being said, but you could feel very intense emotions rushing in and out of your heart. It gets so overwhelming that you begin to cry, laugh, groan, even scream. Your heart is penetrating into God's heart, and God's heart penetrating into yours, it is an intercourse that causes you to fuse and become one with God—one heart with the Father.
